Green Pathways Live

A short live stream that brings each in-person Green Pathways event to residents' phones. Same message, same signup, more people reached.

Prepared for John Powell and the LDCENY team. Nothing here is agreed or scheduled yet. It is a proposal for us to decide together.

Why

More East Brooklyn residents should get a way in, even when they can't get to the room.

Green Pathways connects East Brooklyn residents to careers in the green economy. The program is reaching people through in-person events, and the goal John has set is 250 participants.

John's planning figure, per event

If 50 people register for an event, 15 to 20 typically attend.

"Obstacles in terms of people just getting there."

John Powell, Oct 28 planning call

A live stream gives those residents another way in, from their phones. It extends each in-person event instead of replacing it, and it adds a registration channel toward the 250 goal. That is the case we are proposing, and the pilot is how we would test it.

How

Start small: one 30-minute pilot before November 12.

This follows the split both sides sketched on the Oct 28 call: John keeps in-person outreach, and Matchup supports the virtual side.

Proposed host John Powell, LDCENY

Sets up, runs and hosts each stream, as the voice of the program.

Support Matchup Labs

Supports the virtual side of each stream.

Platform: a choice to make together

Fits an interactive session

Zoom

Viewers join without an account. The free Basic plan covers meetings of up to 40 minutes with up to 100 participants, enough for a 30-minute pilot.

Fits public reach

Instagram Live

Reaches people who aren't looking for us yet. Going live requires a public account with at least 1,000 followers. We have not yet confirmed an eligible LDCENY or Matchup account.

Next steps to make it happen

  1. Choose the platform and confirm the hosting account: the Zoom plan level, or Instagram eligibility (a public account with 1,000+ followers).
  2. Confirm who collects registrations and who follows up with viewers afterward.
  3. Set the pilot date, proposed for about a week before the Nov 12 East New York event.
  4. Run a short technical rehearsal with the presenter setup.
  5. After the pilot, review three numbers together: how many registered, how many watched, and how many viewers completed the signup form. Then decide whether a second stream is worth doing.

Privacy first. No participant names, stories or data appear in any stream or clip until insurance certificates and LDCENY's written authorization are in place.
